Outside of the political circles, there seems to be a somewhat limited representation of Christian babes in pop culture. Christian women are frequently power-brokers with a lot of sway with lawmakers and civic leaders, but it seems (again, according to pop culture) that Christian women aren’t the sex symbols that their opponents in the liberal/secular/devil worshipping sects. There is no doubt that attractive, and yes, sexy Christian women are out there (why else would there be a market for Christian dating). But the whole sexiness thing seems to run counter to certain Christians beliefs (such as that whole “lust is a deadly sin” thing). Let’s see about who the best Christian babes are these days…
I know that I’m contradicting myself right off the bat here, but Hillary Clinton is a political heavyweight, a Christian, and one the best dressed women in America. This feisty senator from New York state has been vilified in the past for being too secular, but if her appearances at White House prayer breakfasts and her regular Sunday attendance is any indication, she’s one former first lady who’s made her Christian relationship with her husband into one heck of a political career.
Sinead O’Connor may seem like an another odd choice - she was nearly lynched after she ripped up a picture of the Pope a decade or two ago. What people overlook is that, while her faith in Pope John Paul was lost, her belief in the Catholic faith never wavered. Let’s also not forget the fact that she was ordained (in a typically unorthodox manner) as a priest a few years ago, and in the words of one her bandmates, “hearing her voice is like being french-kissed by an angel”.
Finally, we can’t forget our friend Jessica Simpson. From her years in the Mickey Mouse club to setting hearts afire in her videos for “Angels” and “Take my breath away”, Simpson has combined pop savvy with a spirituality not seen since the glory days of Motown and its own connection with the Gospel scene. Granted, the chances of ever cyberdating Jessica Simpson are mighty slim, but it’s a comfort knowing that a beautiful Christian like Simpson is able to do away with the stereotype of the school marm-esque Christian puritan.
Not that celebrities are the best examples of beauty and Christianity - in fact, you probably know women that better combine beauty and Christianity that don’t feel the need for fame and glory. Being puritanical and being Christian are not the same however, and hopefully greater spiritual beauty will drift into the secular world as time goes on.
